According to UNICEF’s records, there are approximately 153 million orphans in the world. This is a staggering number, and despite the efforts made worldwide to improve the living conditions for these children, it’s not nearly enough to bring a smile to each of these beautiful faces.
But thankfully, there are a million ways you can help make a difference in these orphans’ lives directly and indirectly, even if you’re oceans apart.
Give Them Clean Water to Drink
Next time you leave a tap running while you brush, remember, there are 844 million people in the world who do not have access to clean water. Many of these are poor orphans in underdeveloped countries that have no parents, no education, often no food, and sadly no clean water to drink as well.
Because of this water crisis, many of these orphans either die from dehydration or drink contaminated water, succumbing to life-threatening diseases.
There are several welfare organizations working towards providing clean drinking water for these children. You can take part in their initiatives by volunteering physically or by donating towards the cause.

Education Leading to A Better Tomorrow
For most orphans, education is a far-fetched dream when they don’t even have access to clean water. But you can change this for them. Education can be an empowering tool for a child, and with the right opportunities, they may have a chance at a better future.
You don’t have to be an educator to make education possible for a child. There are a lot of ways to go about it. While you can always volunteer to teach at orphanages, you can also simply donate school supplies or sponsor an orphan’s education for life.
At Orphan Life Foundation, we have several programs geared towards making quality education more accessible for orphans. Some of these are the Pencil for Poor Program and the Desk for Children Project.
Adopt or Foster to Give Them A Home
One of the surest ways of bringing a difference in an orphan’s life is by giving them a new home. You can choose to either adopt a child or foster them; either way, you’d be giving them a stable home with a proper lifestyle and overall a better chance at life.
Most orphans go through a lot of emotional turmoil in their very short lives, and they need more than food and money to move towards a better life—they need stability and love. You can give them that through adoption.
If you’re still not sure how to help an orphan—we might be able to help!
At Orphan Life Foundation, we’re all about improving the lives of orphaned children. Our work involves everything from providing clean water for these children to setting up baby adoption centers and supplying learning resources and classroom supplies for kids in Africa.
